Contemplating how to get fair skin beautiful? The latest advance in laser technology could make this more than a chimera for those who suffer from acne. Technique is called the BLU-U for short, basically because it involves the use of visible light blue.

How does blue light affect acne?

To answer this question briefly summarize what is really acne. Acne is simply the term used to describe the clogged pores (pimples, whiteheads, Points blacks or injury) that occur on the face or other parts of the body. The cause of acne stems from a disorder of the glands of the skin of oil. These glands produce oil, a substance called sebum, which is continuously secreted through openings in the skin.

In some cases cells that are too close to the openings of these glands of oil actually end up in the way and block the opening. As a result, the oil accumulates under the skin and provides a wonderful land supply for the bad bacteria that simply multiply and cause acne.

What the blue light does is trigger the proliferation of photo sensitizing agents (so-called porphyrins) in causing acne bacteria. This creates a toxic environment, which destroys the acne bacteria themselves, thus removing a major culprit in the production of acne.

What happens during a treatment session?

Blue-light therapy generally requires 16 minutes per treatment session. Patients sit in a chair while the Light therapy is applied. Apart from occasional feeling of mild heating, BLU-U light treatments are described as easy, even relaxing.

Typically, blue-treatments light are given twice a week for four weeks, then once a week for four weeks. Experts in photodynamic therapy generally recommended that patients do not lose appointments for treatment in order to see maximum results. BLU-U effectively remove 70% of moderate inflammatory acne in 4-8 weeks, and the best results are obtained when used with conventional treatments such as creams and oral antibiotics.

BLU-U is FDA approved and is considered one of the most secure acne available. It has no known side effects. Some health professionals, as to say that teenagers can expect results to last for a year, while many adults can be expected to last a lifetime. However, the results should be expected vary from person to person and your skin type will have an important role determining the results of blue-light treatments.

Blue light can cure severe acne as well?

In most cases of moderate to severe cystic acne the blue light itself is not sufficient to treat the condition. In these cases a prescription solution of a photosensitizing agent called Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid) is applied to the affected skin. After the solution was allowed time to absorb into the skin (which typically takes 1-2 hours) the patient sits under a Blu-U light that activates the Levulan. The result is a reduction in oiliness and acne lesions and, in turn produces skin rejuvenation.

This sounds exciting, and it is. But Do not forget to be critical. First of all, according to the FDA, a Levulan / BLU-U treatment does have some potential side effects. These include, but are not limited to: a tingling, burning, tingling or burning sensation of the treated areas. These feelings should improve at the end of the azure and treatment should be completed within 24 hours.

Following treatment with blue light, the surrounding skin, it reddens. Swelling may also occur. These changes should reach a maximum the day after treatment BLU-U. However, the changes are temporary, should improve significantly by the end of the first week, and should be completely gone by 4 weeks after treatment. Else side effects in treatment sites may include: scaling, itching, and changes in skin color.

Second, ask critical questions when talk to your healthcare provider about Levulan / BLU-U. For example, the treatment regime dramatically reduces sebum production, but this is really good for your skin global? It may help relieve acne, but what happens if the sebum is important for your skin in other ways? Sebo does not help keep the elasticity skin? Does play a key role in the anti-virus and anti-bacterial skin? It does not prevent the skin always dry? Does help protect the skin from the sun? Ask questions and expect detailed answers. After all, your skin is on the line.

An addition to the arsenal

Blue-light therapy, either alone or in combination with Levulan is a very exciting new approach to treating acne. Regardless of skin type or lifestyle, approximately 80% the population suffer from acne at some point in their lives. Solutions for the treatment of acne is common in both children and adults, and effective are in high demand.

BLU-U/Levulan is an important addition to the arsenal of those who battle acne regularly. At this point, however, should not be regarded as being all and end all of treatment of acne, both medical and alternative treatments must be considered as well.
