Is the growth of my ficus tree of a serious illness?

My ficus tree has four branches of small businesses that collectively make up a large tree. I bought it with their intertwined and connected in a few points. Over the last few years, has slowly developed a growing woody at the base. Initially I thought it was insect-related, but I cut into it years ago and it was just more "wood" inside. Lately it has grown to envelop the majority of branches and is pushing the tree in an uncomfortable position tilted. What should I do?

Seems a Gall. See the link below. Probably will not kill your plant, only make it unpleasant. Try to cut as much out of it, as you can. You could try using one of the least annoying (not tarry / goopy) after pruning sealant. Good luck.
