How do I break a wooden desk for expansion if you are already stain on it?

I made this desk in school and keep it in my room the basement, however, seems to be expanding. Since it is expanding the drawers is closed properly and the trim around the top is separation from the rest of the plan, although prodigious amounts of glue were used. So my question is, How can I prevent this from happening, there are all the products may protect against moisture or whatever is causing this expansion?
