How To Run A Nanny Background Check

When you hire a nanny you will want to make sure she is a reputable person who is of good character. You need to know more about them then just what you see. The only way you can accomplish this is to do a nanny background check on them.

Your decision to get a nanny is easy. You are spending so much time at work that you don’t feel as if your kids are getting enough attention. You want someone to be home when they are, fix their dinner, and tuck them in at night. When you can’t be the one who gives them all of this the next best thing is a nanny.

A big problem in hiring a nanny is finding out who they really are, not just what they put down on paper. After all, this person is going to be in charge of your kids and alone in your house. There will have to be an element of trust implemented. The easiest thing to do is run a check on this person.

It is not hard to do a background check on a nanny. For a minimal charge you will be able to find out all of the things that you need to know about this person. You will know their criminal history, traffic violations, and even their marital history.

It is easy to go online and check if your nanny has been listed in the database of one of the clearinghouses. These lists will tell you if your nanny has ever committed a crime that had to do with her other nanny jobs. It is a good place to look and most of the listings have pictures.

After clearing the major background issues, you will need to look into their employment background. You will want to check with all of their previous employers to ensure that they left on good terms, and if they had any trust issues with the nanny at any time during their employment.

Make sure that you take the time to go through each and every reference that your nanny has supplied to you. Call their past employers and all of their personal references. Make sure that everything checks out before ever giving her the job. It may seem like it will take way too long to check out each and every reference, but considering that this person will be caring for your children it is well worth it.

The most important things to be done after doing all of the background checking, is to see if the nanny and your children get along. Let her come over and spend the day with your family, or at least invite her over to have dinner. This interaction on such a personal level will not only help you to get to know her, but it will also make her more comfortable while getting to know you.
