The excitement of the season is all around and the big day is almost here. The kids are wound tighter than a top with anticipation. They have gotten their Santa Letters. They have even gotten Santa Calls. Now they are ready for a visit from the jolly ole elf. Christmas Eve is upon you.

Everybody’s favorite holiday is Christmas. Why should it not be? There are gifts and treats and Santa Claus. There are flying reindeer and screaming kids when their personalized Santa letter comes. It is a season of magic. Few things make the holiday more real than a personalized letter from Santa, it makes the holiday more real. This has not always been the case. The jolly old elf had an up hill fight to rein king of the holidays. The process of transracial adoption is regularly attracts controversy. Some believe that children are best taken in by a family in which at least one parent is of the the same ethnicity as the child in order to promote positive self-esteem and racial identity. An alternative point of view is that the love for a child is what matters most and the child’s race should not play a role in the selection of an adoptive family. You’ve seen them. In fact, you may even exhibit some of the same tendencies. The constant gossiping with other mothers, the frumpy clothing, and the latest baby gear are all signs of stereotypical “new mom” behavior. Some experts suggest it’s due to an overwhelming need to connect with other mothers who can empathize with them. Others contend the reason is because new moms are busy; parents with new babies have very little extra time (which may explain the frumpy clothes). Trying to get your baby to sleep is only half the battle! When they are asleep most mothers still have concerns that can keep them up at night and give them a restless sleep. |
